The LOHP creative group exhibitions 2013
Reflections on the Little Ouse Valley in art, craft and music, produced by the LOHP's creative group will be presented in a series of exhibitions in some of our local village halls in late October. Led by the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts as part of our Heritage Lottery Fund programme, local artists have produced many beautiful pieces of work (some of which will be on sale) inspired by the valley's wildlife and landscape. The exhibitions will be open from 11am - 4pm at the Lophams’ Village Hall on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 October and at both Thelnetham and Blo'Norton village halls on Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 October. Free landscape photography and creative writing courses...
are just some of the many activities on offer from our creative arts project run by the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts. Both courses will explore the landscape through different art forms; photography with local landscape photographer Richard Denyer on Saturday 22nd June, and 'words and images' with Norfolk writer Patricia Mullin (date to be announced). Both courses will start with a walk in the Little Ouse Fens followed by a workshop session. For more details and booking for these exciting opportunities click here.
Spring finally makes it...
New lambs on many of the LOHP sites, willow warblers in the wet woods, sedge warblers in the fens, swallows collecting mud and cuckoos calling are just some of the spring sights and sounds to be enjoyed in the Little Ouse headwaters. After such a long, hard winter it's time to get you boots on and enjoy walking the many footpaths around the LOHP sites.
Exploring the valley's rich heritage
On 16th February, fifty people joined Professor Tom Williamson of the UEA School of History's Landscape Group on a walk around Thelnetham and Blo'Norton, exploring our rich heritage of historic buildings and the history of land use and ownership that has shaped the local landscape. The route took in St Mary's Well and ended at Thelnetham Windmill where some of the team that restored it from dereliction in the 1980s were on hand to explain its history. The walk was part of the LOHP's Heritage Walk series funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Watch our Events and Guided Walks page for information on forthcoming walks.
