LOHP wins new awards

LOHP volunteers receive CPRE Norfolk Award

New awards for the LOHP have been given by CPRE Norfolk. At a ceremony in the Norwich Assembly Rooms on 21st November the LOHP was given a CPRE Norfolk Award, which recognises 'significant achievements in buildings and landscape' and was also honoured to receive, from Mrs Joy Boldero, one of the first Boldero Awards for 'enabling, enhancing and encouraging access to the countryside'. These awards are another great way to celebrate our 10th anniversary year and, like our previous awards, are a tribute to all the many volunteers who make up the LOHP.

Creative Arts project gets creative!

The LOHP's creative arts group, masterminded by the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, is up and running after a series of meetings and field visits. They have chosen three strands for their work:
  • Writers and Photographers - collaborating together on journeys through the Little Ouse valley.
  • The Mille Fleurs ("1000 flowers") visual art project where a diversity of work will be made into a frieze of 1000 pieces, each focusing on a single animal, plant, seed, leaf or other living subject from the valley.
  • Music and performance - poets, musicians and other performers will produce podcasts or live performances to celebrate the valley.

Fun, Food, Fens and Folk on the Frith

The LOHP celebrated its 10th anniversary in style and good company with an open afternoon of demonstrations, displays and games exploring the role that the fens used to play in the lives of local people and the impact that changes in farming had on local wildlife and landscape. Our 'birthday bunting' flag competition was judged by Richard Mabey - congratulations to the winners who were: winners were May Seldis (under 8), Beech Tree class from Garboldisham Primary School (8-11), Rachel Brown (12-17) and Sue Lawrence (adult). The day ended with folk music from Two's Company, distictively Norfolk bluegrass from Ben Grizzly and the Looseleaf Drifters and a Ceilidh from the excellent and entertaining Cambridge University Ceilidh Band
